Paintings from photos FAQ - For Customers
The wide variety and options available through Paintings from photos can seem a little bewildering to start off with. Keep in mind that you are the boss and we are just here to help you find and create your perfect piece of art. The following frequently asked questions should help with any initial queries that spring to mind but if your question is not answered here then get in contact.
How does this site work?
Paintings from photos allows you to browse our wide selection of photographic images and choose to have them either printed or painted. Read more about how it works here.
Where do the photos come from?
The photos come from professional and amateur photographers who have submitted their work to Paintings From Photos. Anyone can create their own gallery and add their pictures to the site. Read more about submitting your photos here.
There are so many photos how can I choose?
All our photos are grouped by photographer and by subject. Either browse through individual galleries or speed up your search by looking for individual subject matters such as flowers, landscapes, water etc. Start searching now.
Can I choose the size of my print or painting?
Yes. If you follow our on screen prompts you will be able to choose appropriate sizes for the photograph of your choice. Want something unusual that is not listed? - no problem just contact us and we will see what we can do.
I want a print but of my own photo
Try our sister site - The Big Art Company. They specialise in painting and prints from your own photos. Visit The Big Art Company site now.
I am not based in the UK can I still purchase from you?
In most cases yes. But please bear in mind that postage costs will be significantly higher if delivering abroad.
Why are the prices of some photos more than others?
The sale price of each photo is set by the photographer themselves so may differ from person to person and photo to photo.
How long does it take for me to get my artwork?
That does vary. Photographic prints should be delivered within 5-7 days of your order. Prints on canvas will take between 7-14 days while painting will normally be delivered 4-5 weeks after your order. Please contact us if you have a deadline to meet and we will do our best to accomodate you.
How much does delivery cost?
Again the cost will vary depending on the product and final delivery destination - the following guidelines are for delivery to a UK mainland address. You should normally pay less than £5 delivery for any photographic prints (less than £2 is more likely). Photos on canvas will cost £9-£15 to deliver whilst most paintings are shipped using overnight insured delivery and cost £20.
Paintings from photos FAQ - For Photographers
How can I sell my photos and make money?
By registering as a photographer with the site you can automatically upload your photos for inclusion in the site. You will earn a commission each time one of you photos is used to create a print or painting
How do I know how much money I have made?
At the end of each month you will receive an email from us detailing your sales and any commissions earned. You can also check the current sales for your account by clicking on "View Your Enquiries/Sales" within your photogrpaher account.
When and how do I get paid?
Your commission is paid at the end of each month for the sales created during that month. If you are based in the UK and your commission has exceeded £10 during that month we will send you a cheque (or Paypal payment) for the full amount to your registered address (Please note: for non UK photographers we will only send a cheque when the accumulated commission is £50 or greater but if you have a registered Paypal address with us we will send your commission when it exceeds £10). If your commission for the month was less than £10 this value rolls over to the next month and so on until the monthly total is at least £10.
What about VAT?
VAT (Value Added Tax) of 17.5% is charged on all sales through the website. This percentage amount will be deducted from each of your sales/markup's. For example if you have a priceplan/markup set at £10 and make a sale 17.5% will be deducted from this amount leaving you with £8.25 commission. This post VAT amount is the value that gets added to your commission statements.
Photograph ownership/copyright
Are my photos secure online
We take great care of any photos that you submit to the website and have several layers of security to protect your images from unauthorised use.
1) When you add a photo to your account your high resolution image is moved to a secret folder and eventually offline - this photo is never linked to or accessible from the website.
2) Two images are created from your photo, one is a small thumbnail of low resolution which is too small to be of any use to anyone and the second is the slightly larger main image that customers can see. This larger image is automatically watermarked to protect it.
If I upload photos to you do I still have ownership and copyright of the image
Yes you do on both counts. You do though provide us with the right to display and sell your photos without hinderance whilst they are live in your account. When you delete an image from your gallery we delete all our image files of that photo and will never use it or sell it.
Linking to the site
Can I link to my photos on your site?
Do you have a website and want to link either to your gallery on the site or to a specific photo? We have produced a quick link page that walks you through the html you will need to add to your site and also provided a few graphic icons/banners and buttons to help attract potential customers to your gallery.
